I am currently working towards a PhD in Chemical Engineering (Nanotechnology) at the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. My area of research is nanomaterial design, synthesis, and characterization. I am taking a program on Fundamentals of Undergraduate Teaching and have instructed and TA some courses of my own. I currently hold the Waterloo Institute of Nanotechnology Nanofellowship, the Ontario Graduate Scholarship, and the University of Waterloo President's Scholarship.
I am really excited about the future of science and technology; which is probably why I am studying Nanotechnology! I am usually up to date on the latest gadgets and trends in the tech space. I have some great friends in the entrepreneurial world and have some ideas of my own I would like to test out in the market in the future. I am a member of the open source hardware (OCH) movement and have my own RepRap Prusa Mendel 3D Printer.
This is what I am known by in my circle of friends, in fact some of my friends are surprised when they find out my first name is Andrew. Some other interesting facts: I was 2006 Time magazine Person of the Year, I hold a Guinness World Record, I met Stephen Hawking, and won the 2009 UW Intramural Slo Pitch Baseball Championship. In my spare time I enjoy a good game of Hockey, paintball, RISK, Mario Kart, or quarters. My favourite book recently has to be Surely Your Joking, Mr. Feynman by Richard Feynman.
