Materials, manufacturing & entrepreneurship

Research is a beginning.
Making it useful is the work.

My work connects materials science with the practical questions of manufacturing, scale-up, and product development.

Tangho

Director of NanoPaper & Innovation Lead
Tangho Green Canada Inc.

I lead development and scale-up of NanoPaper.

The work spans material development, pilot trials, manufacturing processes, and technical partnerships, with a focus on getting the material used in manufacturing.

NanoPaper

Nanocellulose-based films developed as substrates for printed sensors and flexible electronics.

The force-sensor demonstration with the University of Waterloo and Yamagata University offers a closer look at the material in use.

University of Waterloo

Adjunct Professor
Department of Chemical Engineering

I completed my master's degree and PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo.

My master's research explored cellulose–polycarbonate nanocomposites. My doctoral research extended that work into electrospinning and additive manufacturing.

Structur3d Printing

Co-founder & Chief Technical Officer
Structur3d Printing Inc.

I co-founded Structur3d Printing, helping bring tools for soft-material 3D printing and desktop injection molding from development to market. Our work grew into three product lines and collaborations with printer manufacturers, including Ultimaker.

Discov3ry Extruder

An add-on paste-extrusion system that expanded desktop 3D printing into silicone, electronic inks, and other viscous materials.

Discov3ry Complete

An integrated printing system pairing the Discov3ry extruder with an Ultimaker printer, developed through our collaboration with Ultimaker.

Inj3ctor

A desktop injection-molding platform that combined 3D-printed molds with controlled dispensing and mixing of rubber materials for practical manufacturing workflows.

I am a co-inventor on one granted US patent and two published US patent applications from this work.

OpenLung

Co-founder & Project Lead
Open-source engineering initiative

In 2020, I co-founded OpenLung, an open-source engineering initiative to develop ventilator prototypes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The project brought mechanical design, electronics, software, and documentation into a shared GitLab repository, with contributions coordinated remotely. The designs focused on readily available components and simple fabrication methods.
